Today we’ll be reviewing the Vienna Symphonic Library (VSL) Yamaha CFX with the Synchron engine VST - the latest in our ongoing series of VST’s. • This plugin is intense, complex, and highly well-executed - nothing short of a visceral experience. It’s without question one of the best VST’s we’ve yet to come across, and we’ll dive into why. • Please like the video below, and if it’s your first time on the channel, subscribe and hit that notification bell! • First Impressions Background: • According to Stu, playing this particular VST for the first time was literally like being transported back to the first time he ever experienced playing a full 9 foot concert grand. A magic, transformative experience for anyone who has ever played a 9 footer. Out of all the digital pianos and VST’s Stu has tried, he feels that this VST is the most accurate representation of the acoustic experience of playing a 9 foot piano in a large space - well beyond just the piano tone. • Reading through exactly what VSL has done to produce this library is nothing short of jaw-dropping. 10’s and 10’s of thousands of samples are loaded into each and every preset, in fact, the standard hard drive we use for storing VST’s at Merriam couldn’t cut it, and we had to resort to an SSD capable of 1,000 MB per second transfer rate. • There are more samples, mic placements, and mixing options than any other piano VST plugin we’ve come across to date. • Piano Sound: • It’s so sensitive, Stu edited the curve right away because it was just so dynamic, and after a slight adjustment, noticed a big improvement. • Soundwise, this thing is simply exhilarating to play. The accuracy of how they’ve captured the magic of a 9 foot piano in a truly beautiful acoustic space is something else. • The various presets have distinctly different characters, and offer a ton of variety. And there’s a ton of control over various parameters, such as delay control, decay control, pre-delay, dampening, individual pan control, and the list goes on and on. • All around, this VST totally blew us away. The bar had been set pretty high with the Garritan and Ravenscroft, but in our opinion, this one goes to a whole new level. No other plugin makes you feel the sheer power of a 9-foot concert grand like this VST. • Other Details: • You do need a USB key to operate this VST, which they ship out to you upon purchase.
