It was the first such gathering since 2018 and followed Beijing’s regulatory clampdown on the tech industry a few years ago. While Xi assured the business leaders they could expect persistent support and wider market access, he urged them to contribute more to the country’s tech innovation amid an intensifying rivalry with the United States.
