Before it was called Kanku-dai it was known and is still known under different a different name which is Kushanku. • When Karate was spread to the Japanese mainland the Karate master Funakoshi Gichin renamed the kata from Kushanku to the Japanese Kanku-dai which means To View the Sky. • You will find in this kata many movements from the Heian Katas which makes practising it a little easier.
