Hi, • I really recommend getting Learning Irish by Mícheál Ó Siadhail for anyone interested in the language. It's very well put together. Here I read half of the text from lesson 4. Below is the text written out in full. If you speak Irish, please give me tips on how to improve my pronunciation. Mine is based upon the book's, which is from Cois Fhairrge, Co. Galway. Likewise, the spelling in the book is irregular and more reflects that pronunciation than the standard. Not too different though. Thanks for watching! • Text (Irish, English translation beneath): • MAPA EILE • A Cháit, an bhfuil mapa ann? • Tá mapa ann cinnte. • Tá go leor tíreacha ar an mapa. Tá Meireacá ansin agus tír mhór eile anseo. • Níl an solas go maith anseo. Níl fuinneoga ar bith ann. • Tá lampa maith anseo. • Anois, cá bhfuil Éirinn agus cá bhfuil Conamara? • Tá Eirinn anseo agus tá Conamara ansin. • An bhfuil Conamara mór? • Tá sé réasúnta mór. • Cá bhfuil Ciarraí? An bhfuil Gaeltacht ansin freisin? • Tá go leor Gaeilge ansin freisin. • An bhfuil coláiste ann? • B'fhéidir go bhfuil ceann ann. Níl mé cinnte. There's America there and another big country here. • There's no good sun(light) here. There's no windows at all. • There's a good lamp here. • Now, where is Ireland and where is Conamara? • Ireland is here and Conamara is there. • Is Conamara big? • It's reasonably big. • Where is Kerry? Is there a Gaeltacht (Gaelic-speaking area) there too? • There's a lot of Gaelic there too. • Is there a college there? • Maybe there's one. I'm not sure.
