A customer recently reached out with questions about venting his new GRP flat roof. He sent over detailed information via email, which is always appreciated. However, like many roofing issues, the situation wasn’t straightforward. His proposed method for venting this unvented cold roof could potentially lead to problems. • In response, I created a video where I discuss the correct ways to construct a cold roof and explore alternative solutions using some of the latest technology available. One such innovation is SIGA’s new air vapor control layer, which allows a roof structure like the one this customer has to be insulated from below without requiring any ventilation. This system is referred to as a compact roof. It’s different from both traditional warm and cold roof systems. Though it doesn’t conform to the conventional standards of warm or cold roof construction, SIGA has rigorously tested it and achieved remarkable results. Given its unique characteristics, we might also call it a hybrid roof. • Another alternative worth considering is the use of modern multi-foil insulation products. Many manufacturers now offer design details, U-value calculations, and dew point calculations, ensuring that your roof design meets the necessary standards. • Steven Dickinson • London Flat Roofing • 07802300099 • [email protected] • #shorts • #londonflatroofing • #londonroofsurveyor • #steveroofer • Storm damaged roofs in London • Roof surveys • Roof surveyor • London Roof surveys and inspections • Roof consultancy • Roof consultancy and roof condition reports • Domestic roof survey • Flat roof condition report • Independent roof surveyor • Leak detection roofing • 00:00 Introduction to a cold roof • 01:31 Explanation as to how a cold roof works • 05:20 Theory as to why they dont work any more • 07:32 Other new options to replace cold roofs
