We would like to wish everyone a happy Easter Sunday, and a wish for more peace on Earth. • Today we bring you Messa di Gloria, Giacomo Puccini's largest non-operatic work. This beautiful piece was premiered in 1880 at a church service for the feast of Lucca's patron saint, San Paolino. Despite its great success, Puccini sought to pursue an entirely different dream: becoming an opera composer like his idol Richard Wagner. Although parts of the piece were used in his later operas, Puccini's Messa di Gloria would not be heard again in full until Chicago 1952 when Dante Del Fiorentino arranged for its performance after discovering the original score. • Messa di Gloria is a direct and unashamedly operatic work, full of color, vitality, and musical surprises. • (Edited from notes by Dieter Shickling that were translated by J.
