#Live Haka supports Standing Rock • • #Live Haka supports Standing Rock • A TAIRAWHITI family is on their way home from supporting Standing Rock in their struggle against the Dakota Access Pipeline, and already another contingent is preparing to make the journey. • http://www.gisborneherald.co.nz • / gisborneherald • / gisborneherald • Native Americans and environmentalists at Sioux tribe Standing Rock’s land in North Dakota have been in protest camps since April, demonstrating against the multibillion-dollar oil pipeline, planned to pass through the tribe’s sacred land.Thousands of people from all around the world, including New Zealand, have joined them, with the cause especially resonating among Maori.Tairawhiti’s Marcus Lloyd recently spent three days at Standing Rock with his family. They had been at the World Indigenous Law Conference in Irvine, California and went to Standing Rock as well “to show solidarity”. The day after they arrived police began to clear the Sacred Stone Camp, which had been blocking the pipeline from destroying sacred burial grounds. One of the organisers brought them up to the frontline. “It was humbling. The people were standing up for their land with arms facing down on them.
