Why Zenithal highlight

The term zenithal highlighting is something as miniature painters we have really taken as our own... • However it traces its routes back to underpaintaing. This is where traditional artists used other colours to create a foundation on canvas prior to painting over it! • This goes all the way back to Titian in the high renaissance period... 1490-1520. • So although we actually zenithal highlight to show in real terms the shadow placement on our model from a zenith... We also change the properties of our paint. • When acrylic paint is thinned it becomes more translucent. This means that it can be colour shifted by the colours on the coat underneath it. • A really good example of this is when you apply yellow over pink and get a deep burnt orange. • So give it a go, you can apply it with a rattle can or even a heavy overbrush (like dry brushing but with more paint). • #feedyourstudiogoblin • #miniature #miniaturepainting #paintingminiatures #minis #painting #acrylic #hobby #hobbyessentials #hobbylove #warhammer #warhammer40k #aos #ageofsigmar #starwars #shatterpoint #starwarslegion #fantasy #warhammercommunity #dnd #dungeonsanddragons • Song: Easy Day • Music by: CreatorMix.com
