Prong collar vs Gentle Leader • Why is Gentle written in quotes? • Well, that's because it is NOT gentle. That is a marketing scheme. • The bridge of a dog's nose, precisely where the head collar sits, has a MASSIVE nerve and blood supply. One of the largest over their entire body, in fact. • Wearing this device is HIGHLY uncomfortable at best, and for super sensitive dogs, it may even be painful. • Not only that, but this is not an appropriate tool for dog owners to be using, to try to train a dog to not pull. • Many dogs suffer from whiplash, and even broken necks, from lunging and launching themselves at triggers while wearing this collar. • As you can see, this is not only an uncomfortable and inappropriate tool, but it can even be deadly. • Sadie wore a head collar for about 6 months before I gave up. I did the proper introductions, desensitized for a long time, and tried just waiting it out. • She would not come to us when we called her for a Walkie. She ran and hid. • She couldn't enjoy her walks, and spent the whole time rubbing her face on the ground. • AND SHE STILL PULLED. • When out working and training, she refused to task. • There came a day when I needed her help, and she wouldn't do anything but rub her face around. • I decided to take off the collar and she INSTANTLY started tasking. • The next day I bought a Prong Collar. • The pulling stopped immediately. • Walks became exciting again. • Instead of running away when I called her, she came excitedly each time. • Prong Collars got a bad rep, when they became mixed up with Choke Collars. • These tools do NOT choke the dogs. In fact, they're so safe to use that for dogs with sensitive tracheas, this is better than even a flat collar, as when they pull flat collars put pressure on their throats where they breathe. • Prong collars do not do this. They should be re-nicknamed the Poke collar. They put minor pressure on the sides of the neck.*** • Before putting this on Sadie, I put it on myself and I YANKED HARD. • Minor discomfort. Maybe. and I really yanked on myself. • This tool does not carry any of the risks of wearing a flat collar, or a head collar. Dogs that back out of their collars cannot do so. It will not injure them. It does not hurt them unless used cruelly. • There really is no comparison. • ***this only applies to #hermsprenger • all other brands of prong collars can be dangerous. • Your dog should ONLY wear a prong when walking or working. It is not for day to day living. • #BOYCOTTgentleleaders • #prongcollar #dogtrainingtips #thisorthat #doglifestyle
