Save this TOP TIP for later! • Here’s a handy trick to remember the gender of Italian animals. Andiamo! • It can be hard to determine the article to use for the names of animals in Italian that end in -e, but there's a little trick. • • Masculine animal terms that end in -e always have a different version for the feminine that can be used. • For example, • ‘l’elefante’ - elephant, has ‘l’elefantessa’, • ‘il cane’ - dog, has ‘la cagna’, • and ‘il leone’ - lion, has ‘la leonessa’ - lioness • so they’re masculine words. • Animal names that end in -e but are feminine only have one word. • For example, • ‘La volpe’ - fox, ‘la tigre’ - tiger, and • ‘la lince’ - lynx all only have one word, so they’re feminine. • Do you know what your favorite animal is in Italian?
