The MKS Gen L has been a mainboard upgrade I've been happy with. It is daunting for some people, however, so in this video I test the new Creality 1.1.4 mainboard for the Ender 3 and Ender 5. It is cheaper and is also plug and play. • Boasting silent TMC2208 stepper motor drivers, it delivers on its promise of being quieter. It claims to have thermal runaway protection enabled but according to my testing, clearly does not. • The good news is that my board came with a bootloader, so updating the firmware is very easy. The simplest way would be to use TH3D, but my vanilla Marlin guide works as well:    • Ender 3 vanilla Marlin update: Concis...   • Update: There are several reports if these boards being received without bootloaders. Seems like a step backwards from Creality. • Hopefully all of these 1.1.4 boards on the newest Ender 3s have a bottloader in place for easy firmware updates. Although it would be more optimal to have 2208_standalone specified in Marlin, this board will work wit the default A4988 configuration just fine. • Compared to the MKS Gen L upgrade, you will still struggle for program flash space and input/output pins, plus you are stuck with the original LCD screen. • Purchase the Creality 1.1.4 Ender 3/5 mainboard: https://www.creality3donline.com/crea... • My Creality Melzi wiring checklist: https://imgur.com/a/Zy7rdq4 • Buy quality and affordable filament from X3D.
