Learn how to make a circular saw guide for quick and accurate cuts. A guide for your circular saw is good for cutting all sorts of sheet goods and shelving material. Inexpensive and simple to build, you’ll use this DIY circular saw guide again and again! • Compact saw guides and track saws are a must-have in the woodworking shop. Even with a table saw, these devices allow larger panels and sheet goods pieces to be efficiently and accurately cut down to smaller needed sizes by bringing the tool to the material rather than the material to the tool. • A saw guide and a true track saw are two different things, but they are similar in that they are designed to create accurate cut lines either lengthwise or crosswise on the material. • There are several track saw products on the market today, ranging from premium high precision tools systems, such as Festool®. There are other less fully-featured products that give much of the functionality of higher grade systems but are made of less durable materials, or are not fully commercial systems. Kreg® offers such a system. • One key feature of a genuine track saw system is an integrated saw base that interlocks with a guide rail that assures the saw closely follows the path of the rail without lifting or shifting. • A saw guide is set up differently in that an “off the shelf” saw (outfitted with the correct blade for the task at hand) can be used with the saw being butted against the edge of the guide to steer the cut. Reasonable accuracy can be had by making sure that moderate pressure is maintained on the saw against the guide so that the cut doesn’t wander. The problem is that just a few seconds of inattention can ruin the cut and send you on another trip to buy more material. • In this episode, Dirt Farmer Jay will show you how to make a saw guide that will assure the saw stays on course, is easy to position and clamp in place, and can be made in various sizes to commonly cut sheet good sizes. Only basic materials are needed. The version DFJ has made uses a DeWalt® 6-½” 20 Volt battery saw with a 60 Tooth Laminate cutting blade. • While the saw base will likely need to be trued, and there will be slight play in the dual guide set-up, the resulting cuts will be accurate enough for pieces to be sized correctly and edged in such a fashion they can be assembled tightly. For a guide that allows you to cut 24” wide material, you can expect to spend about $25 (not including the saw!). • Let’s give credit where credit is due - the inspiration for this tool came from this episode at “The One Minute Workbench” - you can watch it yourself at    • Super Simple Track Saw  . We added a few little features and have been really pleased with the results for a very modest investment! • While there may come a time where a fully-featured track saw makes sense for your shop, you can get started with this great shop-built tool - and you can JUST DO IT YOURSELF! • Follow us on Social Media to know when we’re building projects or releasing new episodes! • Instagram:   / dirtfarmerj   • Facebook:   / dirtfarmerjay   • Also, make sure to check out our website: https://www.dirtfarmerjay.com • You can help support this channel by buying our merchandise or supporting us on Throne or Patreon! • Merch: COMING SOON! • Patreon:   / dirtfarmerjay
