I think this is a good fiberglass reproduction of 13th century Mongolian bows for $100. There are bows out there with better representations often not made of fiberglass, but they are much more expensive, sometimes thousands of dollars made of horn and sinew composite materials. I find that this bow does a better representation than the laminate bows from Alibow (such as the Keshig), mainly due to the transparent glass that is exposed and the siyah design, but they have a better force draw curve. • Regarding 13th century conquest period Mongolian Bows • Draw length: • From archeological finds from Steppenkrieger Zargalant, the Arrow's length with point is 77.3 cm • From Conot Uul: Arrow with point 73.6 cm • From Cagaan Chad: no measures given, but it is given a measure of the bow as • found of 130.8cm (Not along the limbs. Total of parts = 141 cm) • This suggested that the draw length is around 25-30 inches, which is much • shorter than nadaam mongolian bows today. • Draw weight? • The Italian Monk Carpini reported Mongol bows up to 166 lbs. He visited the Khan • in 1246. He wrote two accounts: Historia Mongalorum quos nos Tartaros • appellamus ( History of the Mongols Whom We Call the Tartars ) and Liber • Tartarorum (“Book of the Tartars”). • 166lb as max draw weight suggests that the prehaps the average mongol pulled 100lbs. • There are no records from the mongols about draw weight during this time period. • Range? • An inscription thought to be from 1226 was found on a stone stele in Nerchinsk, • Siberia. It may have said: While Chinggis Khan was holding an assembly of • Mongolian dignitaries, after his conquest of Sartaul (Khwarezm), Esungge (son of • Genghis Khan's younger brother) shot a target at 335 alds (586 yards). • (https://www.atarn.org/mongolian/mongo...) • • According to Alibow: • This bow is designed to reflect the bows used by the Mongols in their conquest. With a very long siyah and short limbs, this bow looks just like the excavated bows of that period. The short length gives it fast arrow speed. This bow has a more authentic look than the other “Han” series fiberglass bows. • In fact, this kind of long siyah, short limb bows were used widely in Asia from around 200 BC to 1300 AD. • -String Length: 1.2 Meter • -Draw length: up to 32’’ • -Draw Weight: 10 to 45 lbs • shameful youtube tags: • aoe4 units • aoe4 mongols • aoe2 mangudai • total war genghis khan • Mongol Army - Tactics, Logistics, Siegecraft • xongkoro, falcon • • #horsebow #mongolian #medieval
