Dinu Lipatti plays the final movement of Chopin's Piano Concerto #1 in E Minor, Op.11, at a Zurich concert on February 7, 1950, with Otto Ackermann conducting the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra. The source material used here is a private white-label LP given to me by a Lipatti student which itself is from a never-released source tape that is different from that used by EMI and other labels. In the first movement there is a one-minute cut, and one can hear neighbouring radio station interference, but this last movement is very clear and this source includes the applause at the end of the performance. Despite the crackle from the worn LP, the orchestral and piano sound is very clear and is better than other released versions of this performance - the recording has not been processed in any way and certainly could still be improved upon, and steps are being taken to do so. • • For the full story on the tape sources of this concert, please read http://thepianofiles.blogspot.com/201...
