Music: attributed to Niccolò Piccinni (1728-1800); Text: Domenico Bolognese (?-?); Arrangement: Stefano Albarello • The legend surrounding the song's origin is that this melody is all that remains of Piccinni's opera La Molinarella, produced in Naples in 1766. The aria, sung by the character Brunetta, became one of the most beloved of Neapolitan melodies. In the mid-1800's, the poet Domenico Bolognese composed the set of words that became the standard accompaniment to Piccinni's tune. • Here is a link to a fun video and lively version of the song on Youtube: •    • La Palummella - Canzone classica napo...   • And here is Bolognese's text (I apologize to my Italian and especially my Neapolitan friends for my difficulties with Neapolitan pronunciation!) : • Palummella, zompa e vola • addó' sta nennélla mia... • Non fermarte pe' la via • vola, zompa a chella llá... • Co' li scelle, • la saluta... • falle festa, • falle festa • attuorno attuorno... • e ll'hê 'a dí • ca, notte e ghiuorno, • io stó' sempe, • io stó' sempe • a sospirá... • Palummella, vola vola • a la rosa de 'sto core... • Non ce sta cchiù bello sciore • che t'avesse da piacé... • 'A ll'addore, • ca tu siente... • 'a chill'uocchie, • 'a chill'uocchie, • 'a chillo riso... • credarraje, • ca, 'mparaviso, • tu si' ghiuta... • tu si' ghiuta... • oje palummé'! • A lu labbro curallino, • palummé' va' zompa e vola... • 'ncopp'a chillo te cunzola • e maje cchiù non te partí!... • Ma si vide • ca s'addorme... • e te vène, • e te vène, • lo tantillo... • tu ll'azzecca • no vasillo... • e pe' me, • e pe' me, • n'auto porzí!
