Helicopters that trim back trees are commonly called Aerial Saws. They are mainly used on utility right-of-ways with difficult terrain. • Common Set-up: • A small gasoline motor powers about 10 large circular saw blades. The blades are positioned in line below the motor. Each blade has special tips for optimal cutting. 20' sections of aluminum tubing are bolted together, usually about 6 total. The tubing is connected to a universal joint for flexibility. This is then connected to the helicopter with a quick release lever. • The helicopters are usually small and can only carry limited weight.
