8/9/21 • At 12:00:34 Harper County conducted a weekly test of their Outdoor Warning Sirens on Monday, August 9th, the test consisted of a 10 second Alert. • Decided to head up to Harper, KS to record their Soundmaster 125. I have been in touch with Harper County Emergency Management for a few months since they are super nice and they told me that Harper tests every Monday at noon for around 1 minute and they are only an hour and 15 minutes away so I figured why not go up there. They only tested for 10 seconds though. I wasn't sure if the siren was active or not because multiple people told me it wasn't but on Google Street View it looked like the disconnect switch was on so I thought I'd ask the EMA and they told me all of the sirens in the County are active. Well, they told me that because they forgot about the inactive Soundmaster 125. When I got there I was able to confirm that the disconnect switch was in the up position which means it's on so I decided to stay there because I thought it was active. I guess I learned the hard way that it really is inactive. I contacted the Emergency Management about it and they told me that it is not in use but can be activated manually. • The ambiance sounded pretty cool though, you can hear an Eclipse 8 and a 2001-130. The Eclipse was over twice as far as the 130 and somehow it was still louder than the 130. The 130 didn't sound too good, it had a slow windup, it was lower pitched than normal, and it's pitch fluctuated a little bit. I’m pretty sure it just has bad brushes. I also told the EMA about that 130 sounded bad and they said they'd take a look at it so hopefully they get it sounding right. I do know that the 130 replaced an STH-10 a few years back. They also have 2 Eclipse 8s and 1 of them replaced another Soundmaster 125 about 10 years ago so they used to have 2 Soundmaster 125s! At 0:34 you can hear my sister saying, “What?! That doesn’t make sense!” Since they only tested for 10 seconds and I was told they test for about a minute. This is definitely the biggest siren I have ever seen, it’s a lot bigger than a Modulator and y’all know those are huge. The Soundmaster is so big that it looks like it’s on a short pole, in reality, it’s on a 40ft pole it’s just so big so it only looks like it’s on a 20ft pole, lol. • Testing Time: Every Monday at noon, weather permitting • Distance: About 100ft • Location: W Main St and Maple St next to the Harper Municipal Pool • Check out my other Siren Recordings:    • Whelen WPS-2904 | Voice   Short Whoop...   • Check out my other Siren Ambiances:    • Enid, Oklahoma Tornado Siren Ambiance...
