Often you will see a swing bearing replaced by lifting the cab off the undercarriage and rolling the tracks out. In this video, our mechanics secure the cab, separate the undercarriage, and lower the tracks down. With the cab secure, they replace the swing bearing and then lift the undercarriage back up to the upper structure. • Any job requires a tremendous amount of safety precautions. With this method, the upper structure is stabilized with jacks, a jack stand, the machine's arm, and a crane. Along the way, extra support is added. • The job is started by pulling the rotary manifold and capping off all the lines. Once the bolts from the swing bearing is removed, the tracks are lowered down. The turntable is then cleaned and inspected. • A forklift brings the swing bearing and places it on the turntable and the swing bearing is bolted down. At this time the undercarriage is raised up to the machine and lined up with the swing gear. The process requires slightly moving the swing to get the gear and the bearing to line up. This is why you cap all the lines in the beginning so you can use the machine's hydraulics. • The cab is then bolted to the bearing and entire machine is lowered back down.
