Polonaise in A Minor, subtitled “Farewell to the Fatherland”, is the most famous composition of the Polish nobleman Michael Cleophas Oginski. Oginski participated in the failed Kościuszko Uprising against Russian and Prussian oppression, and fled to France after the rebellion’s suppression. The Polonaise is remarkable in that it serves as one of the earliest examples of Romantic music, due to its subjective emotion and its nationalism. However, similarly to the youthful Chopin Polonaises, the Oginski Polonaise retains compositional devices from the Classical period, such as the Alberti Bass. • Date: 1794 • Performer: Elena Matytsina on piano • Note: This channel does not own the score or audio, and they are only used for non-commercial purposes. • Score Editor: http://www.hendzel.pl/
