Non-flowering and low growing, they often go unnoticed and are overlooked on the main stage of plants. They provide important services in the natural water cycle and water conservation. • Florida has over 400 species of bryophytes including about 165 liverworts, 5 hornworts, and 230 species of moss. 400 species is a pretty big chunk of our flora to be overlooked so roundly! Brandon will discuss a little about hornworts and liverworts for comparison. For liverworts it's calculated that ~40% are tropical, 40% are temperate, and 10% cosmopolitan - moss species representation remains unknown. • Additionally, Brandon will be happy to demonstrate to viewers on how to recognize some of the common mosses they might see in central Florida. • Brandon is currently at Cameron Lab preparing his dissertation on orchid mycoheterotrophy. A Florida native from Flagler county, he graduated from the University of Florida in 2018, and jumped right into his PhD pursuit . • Cuplet Fern has been an avid supporter of Brandon's plant journey for many years- in a way, this presentation has been a long time in the making.
