Roughly an hour away from Boise Idaho is North America's largest single structure sand dune. The Bruneau Dunes State Park is one of our favorite day trips outside the city. Cheap, easy, fun, this little park is packed with stuff to do from sand boarding, to fishing, paddle boarding, hiking, and camping. There's even an observatory for you to do some star gazing from. • What most people don't know is that just down the road lies the Bruneau Canyon. The Bruneau Overlook is the only readily accessible spot to view this spectacular canyon carved through basalt and rhyolite by the Bruneau River. Hike along the canyon rim, take a picnic.
