Schluter®DITRA Over Wood in a Bathroom Part 2 by Home Repair Tutor

Water can ruin any bathroom subfloor...one of the best ways to waterproof your bathroom floor is to use DITRA. • For more home improvement tips visit https://www.homerepairtutor.com/👍🏼 • In Part 1 we showed how to install DITRA on a wood subfloor and in this video we're going to show you how to waterproof all the seams. • One of the worst places for water is at the tub and floor transition. What can you do to make sure this is not an issue? • As you saw in Part 1 there should be a 1/4 gap between the DITRA and tub. Fill this gap with KERDI-FIX, apply unmodified thinset on top of the DITRA and place KERDI-BAND over both. Then embed the KERDI-BAND using a trowel. • There should also be a 1/4 gap between the DITRA and drywall. Apply unmodified thinset to the DITRA and drywall then embed KERDI-BAND. You'll have to make a crease in the KERDI-BAND then embed it with a trowel. • At all seams you can apply unmodified thinset and embed KERDI-BAND. • Once you're done adding the KERDI-BAND you should fill in all the waffles with unmodified thinset using a rubber float. • Now here's the deal, if you wanted to start tiling at this point you could, which is cool. • The nice part about DITRA is it's ease of use, ability to waterproof a bathroom floor, and the fact that it's super light. • Check out our video for all the details and feel free to ask any questions down in the comments • Today's video is a Part 2 of 2 and shows you how to install DITRA on a wood subfloor.
