4 EASY Ways to Style Your Hair with a COWLICK

If you struggle with cowlicks splitting and you normally flip over to rough dry and get some of the water out first, OR you use a round brush to get volume on the top STOP! You’re actually encouraging the cowlick to pop up and separate. • TRY THIS INSTEAD: • Take a circular section all around the cowlick. Begin by wetting down the roots REALLY well. Blowdry down and across the cowlick, pulling down on your section from the top with tension so you’re not lifting at the root at all. Switch to the other side (still pulling down, just blowdry across the cowlick in the opposite direction). Switch ONE MORE TIME back to the direction you first started with. Now split the circular section in half horizontally. Blow each section straight down and back, and then marry the 2 sections together. • TO LOCK IT IN: • The cowlick should be fully dried, and laying in a neutral position. To lock it in that way, gather the entire cowlick together, and pack a little tease at the root. Smooth out the top layer of hair and finish with a little hairspray. Now you won’t have to worry about it splitting in the middle again or popping up ALL day long. • If the cowlick is back the next day after sleeping or showering, just re-wet the area around it again with a spray bottle and repeat these same steps. This is a temporary styling fix. Remember: there’s no permanent fix for cowlicks, and no amount of “training” will give you permanent results. • These are the steps that work for 99% of the cowlicks I face when styling my 230 clients’ heads of hair, and I hope some of these tips help you too! • I personally find it easier to use one of these tools instead of a round brush, because it helps eliminate the possibility of lifting up, but use whichever tool you feel comfortable with: • A COMB - i like a hard rubber comb so it doesn’t melt under the heat of the dryer.
