Rudra, a Vedic deity, is an aspect of Lord Shiva. Sri Rudram (or Shri Rudram Chamakam) is a stotra or hymn from the Yajur Veda. Through the chanting of Sri Rudram, Lord Shiva's various attributes and aspects are invoked and worshipped. Chanting the Rudram is considered to be of great benefit. • The video features repetitions of this excerpt from the Shri Rudram stotra: • OM SHAMBHAVE NAMAHA • NAMASTE ASTU BHAGAVAN VISHVESHVARAYA • MAHADEVAYA TRYAMBAKAYA TRIPURANTAKAYA • TRIKALAGNI KALAYA KALAGNI RUDRAYA • NILAKANTAYA MRTYUNJAYAYA SARVESHVARAYA SADASHIVAYA • SHRIMAN MAHADEVAYA NAMAHA • Voice, tamboura, swara mandala, chimes: Werner Elmker • Bamboo flute: Tim Britton • Video produced by Werner Elmker Audio-Visual Studio • elmker.com • Audio recording produced by Tim Britton • soundcloud.com/piedpiperprod • The music and Vedic recitation of Ancient Voice is inspired by the oldest North Indian vocal style known as Dhrupad, which traces its origins back to Sama Veda. This music and recitation style is profoundly spiritual and is primarily intended to guide the listener to a very silent and meditative level of consciousness. The emphasis is not on entertainment or virtuosi display of rapid ornaments, but rather on deep exploration of the purity of microtones and overtones and the interplay between consciousness and sound.
