You asked for it! Here's my take on the Fox 34 Performance Vs. Rockshox Yari. I had a blast filming this one, and know y'all are going to love it! I'm going to be on vacation for a few days, but I'll be working on a new video as soon as I get back. Have a good one! • -------------------------- • 📷 My Camera Gear: http://bit.ly/TF_Whatsinmypack • 💲 Help Support What I do: http://bit.ly/TF_donate • 🌎 Follow me Online • Website: http://bit.ly/TF_Web • Facebook: http://bit.ly/TF_Facebook • Instagram: http://bit.ly/TF_Instagram • Twitter: http://bit.ly/TF_Twitt • -------------------------- • Transcription: • Hey, Everyone! Welcome Back! • A lot of you have been asking me to give an update on how I like the 2016 RockShox Yari compared to the 2017 Fox 34 Performance that came on the SB5+. • I got the Yari dialed in and logged enough hours that I think I’ve formed a solid opinion on it. • Before we talk about how it rides, let me first explain why I put a Yari on the bike. • In my video where I shared the process of Kristen buying her first bike, I told you that she was essentially riding my Ragley Bigwig; just with the parts moved to a smaller frame. • Once she had her own bike, I decided to use some of the parts from the Ragley to rebuild the Yeti; this included the Yari fork. • The Yari isn’t really upgrade, but on paper it’s pretty similar to the Fox 34. I wanted to see how the Yari compared to the Fox with all things being equal. • To match the Fox 34 it was replacing, I did need to extend the Yari to 150mm of travel. This only required a different airshaft to be installed. • The tricky part is making sure to buy the right air shaft. There is a lot of part overlap between the Yari and Pike. • Thankfully, the folks over at World Wide Cyclery are pros at this and helped me get the right part ordered. • So now, let’s talk about how it rides. Keep in mind this is just my opinion as an average rider. • The Yari is super supple while still providing good mid-stroke support for turns and braking. It can also take big drops and hard hits predictably. • Pedaling efficiency is also pretty good. I only play with the compression if I’m going up a long fire road. • After my trip to Bellingham, I’ve really started getting more aggressive on my bike and carrying more speed down trails. Having a fork that can take a beating is becoming more important to me. • That being said, I really didn’t notice any extra stiffness going from the Fox’s 34mm stanchions to 35mm on the Yari. • So that leaves the big question: How does it compare to the Fox 34? Honestly, I was impressed with how evenly matched they were. It really comes down to your riding style. • The Fox 34 Performance is the better over-all shock. It’s a bit more linear and offers predictable support in turns while still soaking up all the chunk; great if you live in an area with a lot of flow. • The Yari is a touch more plush, and does a better job smoothing out massive hits while not compromising too much on small-bump or mid-stroke. Perfect if you ride in a super rocky area. • The weight is a bit hard to compare. The Fox 34 is a 27.5 boosted fork that comes in at 1842g, while the Yari is a 29/27+ fork tipping the scales at 2055g. • That brings us to price. The 2018 models just came out for both Fox and RockShox. This means you can get a 2016 or 2017 fork on a fire sale, at that point there’s no clear winner as it’s down to chance. • In closing, both forks have pros and cons but you really can’t go wrong with either. • Personally, I think I’m going to stick with the Yari for a little longer and then swap back to the Fox 34 to make one final comparison. After that I may decide to use one of the forks to build up a new hard tail, we’ll see… • Thanks for watching everyone!
