Thevenin Equivalent circuit Calculation is explained. I hope that you are all enjoying and learning the series on Linear circuit Analysis. As we proceed further with today's lecture we explore the procedure to calculate the Thevenin equivalent circuit across any two points in a circuit. Thevenin equivalent is perhaps the most important and widely adopted topic in Electrical engineering. It helps is creating an equivalent circuit that consist of a voltage source (Vth) in series with thevenin resistance (Rth). Once a Thevenin equivalent is formed, it can be converted into Norton equivalent circuit as well, by applying the source transformation method. The source transformation method is also explained in detail in this video. The Thevenin equivalent circuit has three procedures to find the Thevenin resistance. One method is only applicable to the circuit with independent sources. In that method all the sources are deactivated, after that the resistance is calculated as seen from the required terminals. The second method, also known as test source method is more generic and can be applied to the circuits with any kind of sources. In that method, all the independent sources are deactivated and the ratio of test source voltage and test source current determines the thevenin resistance.
