Chicken dak bungalow or chicken dak bangla is a traditional bengali chicken curry recipe. Presenting this bengali chicken recipe in bhojohori manna restaurant style. This 'mangshor jhol' preparation has a history to it. Lets check the origin of this delicious traditonal bengali ranna 'murgir jhol' preparations. • During colonial era, the rest houses in the dak (mail) route were referred as dak bungalow or dakbangla. British officers used to take rest while on a journey, or used as a night stop during a hunting trip. These were open for other travelers as well were very well equipped with bedrooms, kitchen etc. Generally, the dak bungalows used have their own chicken, goat and cows, both for the meat and the milk. So the officers used to be served chicken jhol (murgir mangsho) with steamed rice during their night stay. • khansamah (cook) used to prepare chicken curry in country-style with the chicken from dak bunglow and local available spices. They used to grind the whole spices and add eggs along with potatos. The addition of eggs and the use of whole spices were the specialty in this Chicken/Mutton Curry. This dak bungalow chicken is pure bliss and heavenly in taste and thus was very popular among travelers/officers. • Unfortunately this chicken dak bungalow recipe is a near forgotten culinary treasure now. But its prepared in some of the kolkata restaurants like Bhojohori manna.
