Author FAQs • Q: When reaching out to reviewers and the like, do I use the last pdf version that I have? Or is there a final version that is included in the author media kit? • A: I do not recommend sending anyone one of the PDFs you receive during the production process. That opens your book up to piracy. Email us and we’ll send you a watermarked e-proof that is less likely to be pirated. • Q: If a reviewer responds and is interested in reading, do I send the entire media kit? Or do I send the media kit when first reaching out? • A: Your media kit is essentially your book blurb, bio, and a QR code to download an electronic copy of your book (most reviewers prefer an electronic copy). If you use the solicitation format I recommend, you’ll send the solicitation first and only send an ebook when they’ve asked for it. • Q: I've had several reviewers contact me through social media. How do I know if they're scammers? • A: You don’t. That’s why you’ll want to check them out. Do your due diligence and see what their posts and following are like. Do they look legit? • Q: You guys take care of Chanticleer, correct? • A: Yes, if you ordered a package that included it, I’ll order it. • Q: How long before an event should I order author copies? • A: As soon as you book the event. • Q: What if the event is at a bookstore? Do I have to sell through them? • A: It depends on the bookstore. If they order the book stock then they’ll ring them up. If you bring your own stock, most will ring up the sales at the register and then pay you at the end of the event. • Q: I have in my notes to ask you about setting up Google alerts. • A: Every author should set up Google Alerts (www.google.com/alerts) for their name/pen name and their book title. Sometimes it is the only way to know if someone has blogged a review of your book. When they do, remember to thank them and to share that review across any networks you have. If it is a poor review, DO NOT ARGUE with the reviewer. Just let it go and don’t share. • Q: I've been asked if it will be available through Amazon in Israel or Germany. • A: Our books are distributed on Kindle through Amazon in the US, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Japan, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Australia, India. Paperbacks are distributed through Amazon to all of the above plus the EU.
