Planting and Growing Lablab beans - Hyacinth beans in October • We are growing something different here on the homestead. The lablab bean otherwise known as the Hyacinth Bean. It is a brilliant cover crop or climber as it grows 6ft tall. • Lablab purpureus is a species of bean in the family Fabaceae. It is native to Africa and it is cultivated throughout the tropics for food. English language common names include hyacinth bean, bonavist bean/pea, dolichos bean, seim bean, lablab bean, Egyptian kidney bean, Indian bean, bataw and Australian pea. • As with other legumes, lablab is a good source of protein.
