Gabriela Sperl was born in Bad Godesberg into a diplomat family. studied History, Political Science and Languages and obtained her doctorate under Professor Thomas Nipperdey, a renowned German historian. She was lecturer and teacher in Munich at the age of 25. In 1982 she gave up her university career and started to work freelance for production companies and TV stations, as dramatic advisor and script consultant. She has been teaching at Munich Filmschool HFF for many years where she is member of the Hochschulrat. From 1998-2002 Gabriela Sperl was Head of the Drama, Fiction and Documentary Department at the Bayerischer Rundfunk/ARD.
