Decades of isolation and conflict made the Karamoja region unthinkable as a destination. Until now… Discover Karamoja, Uganda's Best Kept Secret. • Two and a half years ago we started the Kara-Tunga journey aimed at meaningful job creation, positively impacting the image of the Karamoja region and preserving the rich cultural heritage through sustainable tourism promotion and development. • We started from a place where there were just a few tour operators reaching the Karamoja region and travel advisory of leading countries was advising against all travel. • From scratch we engaged in sensitization of communities, developing and packaging tourism products,recruiting and training of field guides and hospitality staff, establishing a homely bascamp for travelers, developing valueable partnerships and organising events. • Today we're proud of having established the first for Uganda, social enterprise developing and promotion tourism in the Karamoja region with the following tools: • Tourist Information Office, Moroto Town • Public relations, www.kara-tunga.com/publications/ • Capacity Building Initiative, www.KaramojaTourismAcademy.com • Base camp for Travelers, Kara-Tunga, Karamoja Safari Camp • Tourism Promotion and Information Campaign, Discover Karamoja • Mountain Bike Event, Tour of Karamoja • A result of our ambition and building valueable partnerships is this video that came to life with the joined efforts of regional tourism stakeholders and passionate professional film makers Dietrich Mangold and Britta Mangold who dedicated time and effort to support the development of sustainable tourism development in Karamoja. • #DiscoverKaramoja, Uganda's Best Kept Secret at www.kara-tunga.com
