Ten Hours of Black Noise is another ambient sound stream in my noise series. By definition, black noise is effectively silence with a tiny bit of random noise at some frequencies and some noise above 20kHz, which is the upper limit of human hearing. This is a educational tool to understand black noise and its relation to white noise, pink noise and other forms of audio noise. Black noise is a term commonly associated with video and film where it refers to no video, thus blacked out video. • John Cage created a composition, 4:33 in which the performance is that of no playing of notes--no sound. Is Ten Hours of Black Noise art? Is it an educational tool? Is it crazy to post 10 hours of nothing? There are several noise colors to choose from. • Additional information on the Broadcast Standard Noise Colors can be found on Wiki. • The creation process involved a DAW (digital audio workstation), ProTools. A audio signal generator was utilized to create noise, in this case -90dB dither noise. The audio is recorded from the generator for 10 hours and then exported into a video editing program, Magix Vegas. A corresponding video is created I made in the video program.
