These are a type of Greek sandwich and the meat is made like a meatloaf with ground beef and ground lamb with a few spices. It's baked in the oven for 1 hour then it's thinly sliced and browned on the pan to get maximum flavor!! • It's then placed in a warm soft pita bread with tomatoes, onion and creamy tzatziki yogurt sauce. Don't forget to put the french fries inside because a REAL AUTHENTIC GYRO will have fries and even ketchup inside! YUMMY! • Enjoy! • GYRO MEAT: • 1 pound ground beef • 1 pound ground Lamb • 1/2 onion • 2 cloves garlic • 2 teaspoons oregano • 1 teaspoon pepper • 1+ 1/2 teaspoons salt • 1 teaspoon cumin • Tzatziki Sauce: • 1 cup plain yogurt • 1 grated cucumber • 1/4 teaspoon oregano • pinch of salt • 2 cloves fresh garlic • drizzle of olive oil • Pita bread • sliced tomatoes • sliced onion • french fries • paprika optional • Directions: • Place everything for the gyro meat into the food processor and pulse until all combined. Form it into a log on a baking sheet and bake in a 350 degree oven for 1 hour. • Once it is ready, slice the gyro meat into thin slices and fry it on the pan to get crispy around the edges. Serve inside a warm pita bread with tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, onions and french fries.
