Not For Long! • On Sunday, February 9, 2025 Donald Trump called for the end of production of the penny. • The Department Of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, identified a cost savings of roughly $179 million dollars a year once production of the penny stops. • Say what you will about the Trump administration, or DOGE, but this decision isn’t based in politics. • It’s based on basic economics. • According to the U.S. Mint, each penny costs 3.69 cents to produce. • It seems idioc to make something that costs 2.69 cents more than its worth! • The United States has been cruising toward the day when the penny becomes obsolete for a while now. • The truth is most Americans don’t even spend pennies.
