Phages are a controversial, but promising medicine against antibiotic-resistant bacteria - and you can find them in any river on the world. • We are at the beginning of an antibiotic crisis. We are rapidly running out of effective antibiotics and a nightmare scenario is dawning: The World Health Organization predicts that 10 million people will die annually from antibiotic-resistant bacteria by 2050. That is more than there are deaths from cancer every year. • One of the possible alternatives to antibiotics is phage therapy; a therapy in which bacteriophages (viruses that only target bacteria) are used to infect and kill bacteria. In this documentary, we visit visionary scientists and research laboratories around the world to talk about the most promising phage research.
