In addition to standard insulin pump therapy, Automated Insulin Delivery (or AID) systems deliver insulin similarly to standard insulin pump therapy with one major difference: insulin delivery automatically changes based on where glucose values are and where they are predicted to go. Wearing a Continuous Glucose Monitoring (or CGM) System along with an insulin pump is needed for AID systems to work. • AID systems are equipped with algorithms that can receive CGM values and calculate how much basal insulin to deliver based on current and predicted glucose values.
