Hello again my lovely people!! Today’s song is a simple and sweet one, about patience and watching things grow. A lot of things in this world are “seeds”- relationships, children, art… And for all of them we need to have patience. I think Akeboshi wanted to express a sense of comfort in that waiting, sitting back and enjoying the passage of time, the growing and changing and blossoming of the seeds in our life. • If you don’t know Akeboshi, he’s most famous in the West for his songs Wind and Yellow Moon which were both featured as ending songs for the original Naruto anime series. I didn’t watch Naruto growing up but I did find Akeboshi through it, and I’ve grown up with his folk and pop inflected music instead! If you want to hear me cover some more Akeboshi songs, check out this one: • A Nine Days' Wonder Akeboshi Cover ... • For this song I used a technique of prepared piano I co-opted from practice upright piano models I’ve played on before. These pianos sometimes have a pedal which lowers a sheet of soft felt over the strings to mute or muffle them. Here, I’ve muted the strings with a piece of fabric to create a washed out, soft, fuzzy piano timbre. Then I’ve punctuated it with a normal piano line heavily saturated with reverb, with the attacks added back in over top in post. A midi bass provided some attack and rhythm for the muted chords. But the real focus in this song for me was the vocal harmony, which I’ve (as usual) formulated over years of singing along to the original. • I don’t own this song by Akeboshi, this is just my cover of it!
