On November 16, 2013, a special ceremony will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the sounding of Taps. Kennedy. • Over 100 buglers from across the country to converge on Arlington National Cemetery to honor Keith Clark. • On Saturday, November 16, 2013, the family of Keith Clark will be joined at Arlington National Cemetery by military and civilian buglers and other specially invited guests for a commemoration of Clark's sounding of Taps on that day 50 years ago when America said farewell to John F. Kennedy. • Sponsored by the organization Taps for Veterans, the day will include a ceremony at the Old Amphitheater, a massed sounding of Taps by over 100 buglers from across the country, wreath ceremonies at the grave of Keith Clark and the Tomb of the Unknowns, and a showing of a special movie about the bugler's statue in the Arlington Welcome Center. • The event is free and open to the public. • For more information visit www.taps forveterans.com or email [email protected] • Additional Information: • The ceremony will feature music performed by the U.S Army Band (Pershing's Own) and colors presented by the Joint Service Colors Team. The ceremony will be narrated by Jari Villanueva, retired Arlington bugler and bugle historian. Speakers will include Nancy Joy McColley, daughter of Sgt. Keith Clark and James Swanson, noted historian and author of End of Days: The Assassination of John F. Kennedy. Several original members of the U.S. Air Force Pipe Band who played Mist Covered Mountains at the funeral will be in attendance to reprise the tune performed at he funeral. In addition, Edward Hunter who 50 years ago wrote letters to Sgt Clark following the funeral, will be recognized. Mr. Hunter provided the voice-over to the video A Bugle Call Remembered. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Colonel Michael Colburn, Director of the U.S. Marine Band, will lead the 100 plus buglers in a four-part rendition of Taps. • Following the ceremony, buglers will move to selected positions around Arlington and sound Taps at 12 noon. For almost five minutes the cemetery will ring with the sound of Taps echoing throughout the hills. • At 1:15 PM a special wreath in memory of the 35th president and Sgt Clark will be presented at the Tomb of the Unknowns. After the wreath ceremony there will be a screening of a 25-minute film The Bugler's Statue: Capturing a Moment , a documentary by MSG Les Owen of the US Army Band, on the making of the statute in the Welcome Center. The film will be shown in the auditorium of the Women in Military Service to America Memorial. • At the conclusion of the film, everyone will be invited to meet SSG Jesse Tubb, the model for the bugler's statue and view the bugle used at the funeral of President Kennedy.
