Attica Prison Riot summary - On this day in history, September 9th of 1971, the prisoners of the Attica Correctional Facility took over the prison for several days. They held hostages and demanded relief from their terrible living conditions and requested a solution for overcrowding in the facility. When law enforcement took back the facility many hostages were killed and a large number of inmates were killed and wounded as well.
