As someone who has been on both Ontario Works (Welfare) and now the Ontario Disability Support Program, I have gained a lot of experience in how these social assistance programs DO NOT assist people. Through explaining how the system claims to work and bringing everyone through my experience trying to apply for this program myself, I try to show just what a mockery of a system it is. They disapproved me at every opportunity, causing me to fight for almost two years before finally getting their financial help. But they only provided me with temporary approval, while refusing to provide me with the medical coverage I need in order to get back to work. They recognize I have a disability that can be improved, but they simply wont help me work on it. • Luckily I have found some help through a program designed to help abuse victims, but most ODSP recipients dont have access to this - so what is someone else in my position to really do!?
