These past few months I had the privilege of being one of the judges for In Other Words – a Booktrust initiative funded by Arts Council England. We trawled for outstanding children's books from 200 entries submitted by publishers from around the world. Last week we launched our honour list of eight titles and announced three winners. The winners were The Robbersons by Siri Kolu (Originally in Finnish), Red Stars by Davide Moros (Originally in Italian) and Alaska by Anna Woltz (Originally in Dutch). The rest of the honour list includes: Dinosaurs in Reykjavik by Aevar Thor (Icelandic), The Film of Our Life by Maite Carranza (Catalan), The Immortal by Ricard Ruiz Garzón (Spanish), Wolf, Edda and the Stolen Relic by Kristín Ragna Gunnarsdóttir (Icelandic), The All Mine Academy by Fabrizio Silei (Italian). • The judges included Florentyna Martin from Waterstones, Gary Powell from Foyles, Simon Key from the Big Green Bookshop, award winning translators Sarah Ardizzone and Daniel Hahn, publishing consultant Elaine McQuade, David Cross from Arts Council England and Jill Coleman from Booktrust. Our chair was writer, critic and journalist Nicolette Jones. • https://www.booktrust.org.uk/books/aw...
