Unpacking the simple yet profound truths of the Gospel, Romans 11: 33-36. • Romans 11:33-36 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! (34) For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? (35) Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? (36) For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. • As to the gospel, we know there is simplicity such that even the most unlearned will be able to understand the gospel. • This message is a meditation on the profundity of the gospel. We consider its deepness, its wisdom, and the greatness of God’s work. • 1. The Great Design of Salvation • As we look at salvation we have, we cannot but admire the great intricacy of our redemption! Truly the writer of Hebrews on 2:13 is right when he describe it as a great salvation. It’s a magnificent work. It is an obra maestra from God - the work of a master, it is the magnum opus of God - the great and skilful work of God. • We can observe the following: • There is deep wisdom in God. v. 33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! • It could have been a simple solution. The moment that we have sinned, he could have easily thrown Adam, and consequently all humanity into eternal damnation. Or he could have opted not to create us at all and enjoy the communion he had with the Trinity. • Yet he chose to act on it. He chose to save people. He chose to send his Son. He chose to be merciful and yet righteous at the same time. He chose to call you and appointed us for salvation. Why? Not because of anything in us, but because of everything in him – his mercy, his grace. • There is no counsellor for God. v. 34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? 35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? • In a way, if God is the writer/author of this great narrative of salvation, he has not employed ghost writer or proxy artist to do this work for him. It was God’s own design. It was God’s own will. • Brothers and sisters, when the Lord saved us, he himself saved us, and he has us in his mind. • Salvation is so great such that no one was able to fathom it, so wide no one will be able to fully grasp it. • There is a prize for for people who have contributed greatly in the realms of chemistry, physics or literature. It is the Nobel Prize. Brethren, I don’t think anyone is worthy to receive a Nobel Prize for Theology, or a Nobel Prize for Salvation/Soteriology because it is a subject so deep, so profound, so amazing, and awesome that none can claim mastery over this subject • • 2. The Great Doxology of the Saved. • V. 36, For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. • I think at the end of the day, our role is not to speculate further, not to put God in a microscope and examine him, but ultimately to admire and be amazed at the great wonder of God’s work in us! And to redound back the glory to the Almighty one who deserves it all! • Brothers, let us stand amazed at the presence of Jesus the Nazarene, and wonder how he could love me, a sinner, condemned, unclean. Or listen to the words of Wesley when he wrote, Amazing love, how can it be, that thou my God, shouldst die for me. • How is your praise to God? Do you stand in awe of his great work? Let us be amazed at the great work of God’s salvation and give him the glory. • There is profoundness in this gospel – a profound and deep design - enough for us to admire His work, al the days of our life, and into even life eternal. • May we offer our profound praise and adoration for God's saving gospel. • #communionmessage #communionsermon #communion #gospel #salvationinchrist #salvationinchrist
