Do you let people pet your service dog? • Opinions on this can vary widely, and each handler has their own approach. Here’s how I personally handle interactions with Sebastian. • There are certain people Sebastian knows so well that it’s actually harder for him to focus until he’s said hello. In these cases, I use a release command, ‘go say hi,’ allowing him to greet and be petted until I call him back into a heel. This signals that he’s back in work mode. I typically reserve this for people we know well, and occasionally for kids—after explaining why it’s important not to pet service dogs or any dog without permission. • I love running into familiar faces or visiting booths like @hazelmadeco and @bigdaddybiscuit at the farmers market.
