We are happy to share with you one of the most beautiful sounds in nature…the Nightingale. • The common nightingale has been used as a symbol of poets around the world. In Sonnet 102 Shakespeare compares his love poetry to the song of the common nightingale (Philomel): • Our love was new, and then but in the spring, • When I was wont to greet it with my lays; • As Philomel in summer's front doth sing, • And stops his pipe in growth of riper days: • Below are a few interesting facts about Nightingales. You might call it a ‘birdy call’. • • The first ever live radio broadcast of birdsong was of a nightingale in ‘concert’ with the cellist, Beatrice Harrison, on May 19, 1924 in Oxted, Surrey. The repeat performances were so successful that Beatrice received 50,000 fan letters. • • Nightingales have a rich repertoire, able to produce over 1,000 different sounds, compared to just 340 by skylarks and about 100 by blackbirds. This is because the part of the brain responsible for creating sound is bigger in nightingales than most birds. • Please subscribe to our channel:    / @threewren   • Thank you for listening.
