And New Japan became a casualty. Everything from AEW's roster, to recreating Japanese-style tournaments to its obsession with retirements has taken AEW from a strong competitor to a weak impostor. This was Chris Jericho, the David Bowie of pro wrestling, once again reinventing himself, and at the same time rewriting the history of pro wrestling as we know it. • Jericho's match with Kenny Omega caught the attention of Tony Khan. A timid, Nice-Guy NepoBaby whose billion-dollar trust fund would create the most serious national competitor to WWE since WCW.
