This is a very rare technique from the pakhawaj tradition. It will almost never be found in normal vocal or instrumental accompaniment. However, it is commonly found in the accompaniment of kathak dancers. In principle, it functions like a purbi Taa, except the entire little finger is used to mute the drum, and the rest of the hand is used to excite it. • For an in depth discussion of this and other techniques, check out https://chandrakantha.com/music-and-d..., or “Fundamentals of Tabla”.
