Mt Fuji is Japan's highest mountain at 12,389 ft (3776 meters). Hiking to the summit of Mt Fuji is an amazing experience I would highly recommend. For climbing in May, I suggest that you hire a guide to assist with route finding, safety, and all necessary gear.
