He was awarded the Blaney Gold medal for First in Medicine, St James' Hospital. After house-jobs in Dublin, he moved to London in 1990 and trained in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at King's College Hospital Liver Unit, St. Bartholomews/Homerton London, and Western Infirmary, Glasgow. • He has been a Consultant in his present post since July 1998. In his current career he has developed a major interest in endoscopy, both in his clinical practice and in management and service redesign.
