WITN was on hand at the William T. McLaughin Public Safety Building as Wilmington Police Chief Robert J. Tracy and Mayor Mike Purzycki unveiled the 2018 Year-End Compstat Report. Wilmington saw positive changes in 2018 as the city saw reductions in shooting incidents, gun-related homicides, and overall crime. Chief Tracy indicates that the changes are a reflection of a shift in philosophy within the Wilmington Police Department (WPD). This new ideology is centered around department-wide community engagement efforts, directed patrols, and Intelligence-led policing.
