In this video, I explain how turtles shed their shell. Similar to other reptiles like snakes, turtles shed their shell. They shed the top layer of their shell which are called scutes. • Turtles shed because their scutes are not very elastic, so they have to shed them to accommodate growth. This results in a turtles shell peeling off on the top layer. • When a turtle starts to shed, their shell will start to dry out as new scutes start to form underneath the old ones. This can cause your turtles shell to develop white marks on their shells. • Shedding can last for weeks or even months, and turtles usually shed one scute at a time. • You should not rip their scutes off because it could cause damage to their new shell. • If you want to help your turtle keep a healthy shell, you should make sure they have a lot of vitamin A and vitamin D in their diet. • #redearedslider #turtleshell
